The royal Ascot Racecourse was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, and has since received the support of a further twelve monarchs. In 1911, the Ascot summer race meeting officially became a Royal week. The King and Queen are owners and breeders of many thoroughbred horses and share an interest in horses with many members of the family.
