Princess Diana was someone that few will forget: a demure woman of integrity who has gone down in the history books not only for being the ‘People’s Princess’, but also for her spot-on fashion choices that has captivated the hearts of so many. We have compiled a few of the late Princess Diana’s iconic jewellery moments below.

Sapphire-and-Diamond Engagement Ring

One cannot speak about Diana’s jewellery collection without mentioning her iconic engagement ring. The 12-carat blue Ceylon sapphire would be a stunner on its own, but the 14 solitaire diamonds surrounding it ensure this ring is royal worthy. Made by Garrard, who was appointed Crown Jeweller in 1843, and chosen by the royal bride out of a catalogue in a break from royal tradition, instead of having it custom-made.

The ring's cluster design has become synonymous with Garrard and remains one of the most requested designs by brides today. Today the ring belongs to Catherine, the current Princess of Wales, as the ring serves as a sentimental reminder of Diana's lasting legacy within the royal family.

The Spencer Tiara

The Spencer tiara has been in Diana’s aristocratic family for nearly a century before being worn by her. It is made from several separate pieces belonging to Diana's female relatives and in the 1930s, Garrard crafted the various elements into the tiara we know today. The Spencer Tiara has beautiful diamond encrusted shapes of tulips, scrolls, and stars.

This family heirloom belonged to Diana's father, John Spencer, the eighth Earl Spencer, and earned "icon" status when Diana wore it at her wedding to Prince Charles on July 29, 1981; she wore the piece throughout her time as Princess of Wales, but the tiara remains part of the Spencer family collection, owned by her brother Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer.

The Delhi Durbar Emerald Choker

This Art Deco diamond-and-emerald choker was a gift to Queen Mary by the 1911 Delhi Durbar, or "Court of Delhi," held to commemorate the coronation of an emperor or empress of India during British imperial rule.

In 1981, Queen Elizabeth II gifted Queen Mary’s Art Deco Emerald Choker to Lady Diana Spencer, as a lifetime loan, when she married The Prince of Wales. Whilst designed to be worn as a necklace, Princess Diana wore the choker as a headband occasionally. The trend-setting Princess was last seen wearing her stunning diamond-and-emerald choker during a low-key gala celebration to mark her 36th birthday at London’s Tate Gallery on July 1, 1997.

The diamonds in this piece seem to be around 10 carats each. They are old cut stones, which adds to their value. The choker is estimated to be worth from £10,000,000 to £15,000,000,000.

Sapphire and Pearl Choker

The eye-catching sapphire brooch originally belonged to and has passed down in Royal tradition. In true Diana style, she redesigned the diamond-and-sapphire brooch as a centrepiece of this incredible seven-strand pearl necklace.

It’s been worn on many occasions and is definitely one of her most iconic statement pieces. In 1985, she was pictured wearing it during a dance with John Travolta at the White House. In 1994, she wore it with her well-known “revenge dress” during the day Prince Charles admitted to his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. In 1996, at the Met Gala in New York, Diana wore the choker to add drama to her slinky slip dress.

Collingwood Pearl Drop Earrings

One of the princess' favourite pearl accessories were the diamond and pearl drop earrings gifted to her by Collingwood, a jewellery firm that was a favourite of the Spencer family.

The earrings feature a round diamond stud, from which is suspended an additional round diamond and a bell cap set with three more rows of small diamonds. The bell caps each contain a lovely pearl drop. Worn by the princess for a dinner during the state visit of King Khalid of Saudi Arabia in 1981 in the month before she married Charles.

Aquamarine Ring

Lucia Flecha de Lima gave the aquamarine gem to Diana, which was later made into a 13-carat emerald-cut aquamarine ring by Asprey. Claiming it was worn to replace her sapphire engagement ring after her divorce.

The ring was valued at £75,000 and has since been worn by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who wore the ring for the evening party at Frogmore House on her wedding day.

Butterfly Earrings

Diana first wore the butterfly earrings on her royal tour of Canada in 1986. Butterflies symbolise transformation and freedom - themes that resonated in the Princess of Wales’ personal journey and philanthropic endeavours. The diamond-encrusted butterfly earrings feature darker stones on the butterfly's lower wings, and were a favourite of Princess Diana's.

On August 16, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, appeared to wear her late-mother-in-law’s butterfly earrings on the second day of their trip to Colombia while visiting the Colegio La Giralda school in Santa Fe.

The choice of accessories were perfect for the school visit, calling back to Princess Diana's connection with children. As the late Princess of Wales worked as a kindergarten teacher in London before she married the future King Charles in 1981, and her statue at Kensington Palace depicts her with three children to reflect her work to nurture young people around the world.

A similar pair can be bought to show your appreciation to the late Princess. The 2.2 ct. t.w. Marquise and Pear Cut Tru Diamonds Butterfly Stud Earrings are simple with a powerful shimmer.
