Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, was already a world-famous celebrity in her own right before integrating into the British Royal Family. Markle graduated from Northwestern University, USA with a double major in theatre and international studies. As well as appearing in popular television shows like Suits, where she played the savvy paralegal Rachel Zane for seven seasons from 2011 and 2018.

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle with a custom-designed engagement ring, featuring a three stone design. The 3 carat cushion-cut centre stone was sourced from Botswana, due to the sentimental value the place holds in their relationship. In ‘Spare’ by Prince Harry, it reads that he invited Meghan on a trip to Botswana early in their relationship to get to know each other properly away from the public eye and paparazzi.
The two flanking round-cut diamonds on the ring are both estimated to be 0.75 carats each, totalling the ring to be 5 carats. The two side stones are from the late Princess Diana’s personal collection.
The three stone or trilogy design symbolises the past, present, and future. The centre stone being the largest, represents the present moment and the importance of being ‘in the moment’ together. The stone on the left symbolises the past and the stone on the right as the future.
The diamonds are set in a Welsh gold band, which is a longstanding tradition in the British royal family that dates back to 1923 when the Queen Mother chose the material for her own wedding ring. The nugget of gold was a gift to Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II and was presented to Meghan on her wedding day on May 19, 2018.
