Royal Romance King Charles & Queen Camilla's 20th Wedding Anniversary

by Charlotte Mostert on April 18, 2025

On the 9th of April 2025, the world celebrated King Charles and Queen Camilla’s 20th wedding anniversary.

The King and Queen were in Italy during their anniversary and were able to attend a private meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican, as well as a state banquet in Rome hosted by the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella.

During King Charles’s historic address to the Italian parliament, Her Majesty appeared to pay a subtle tribute to her husband by stepping out in her wedding dress. The Anna Valentine ivory silk tea dress that was worn on Her Majesty’s ceremony in 2005 was subtly reworked with embroidery by a crafts person from the King’s Foundation, Beth Somerville.

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Love Story

In 1970, King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort’s love story began. A love spanning decades and having endured multiple obstacles, their journey to this happy ever after was unlike any other. In February of 2005, the Royal House announced the engagement of (then known as) Charles, The Prince of Wales and Camilla Rosemary Bowles and later on April 9, 2005 tied the knot in a civil ceremony at the Windsor Guildhall.

Queen Camilla's Wedding Ring

Queen Camilla’s engagement ring is different from any other royal jewellery of the British royal family. Her Majesty elegantly wears an Art Deco designed, five-carat emerald-cut diamond flanked by three baguette diamonds on each side. Set in platinum, the stunning ring lets the stones take centre stage.

Buckingham Palace revealed that Queen Camilla's wedding ring was a royal family heirloom as it was from the jewelry collection of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. In the 1980s, Queen Mother was photographed wearing the Art Deco ring that was allegedly a push present from her husband King George VI after she gave birth to Queen Elizabeth II.

King Charles wedding ring & signet ring

King Charles held the title of ‘Prince of Wales’ for sixty-four years from 1958 to 2022, longer than any previous heir apparent. The pinky ring (as it is colloquially known as) bears the crest of the Prince of Wales feathers and the motto ‘Ich Dien’ which means ‘I Serve’, which was presented to him by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. The signet ring is a classic oval shape in 18 carat yellow gold, most often referred to as the Oxford oval and is the most traditional shape.

The King wears his wedding ring tucked underneath the signet ring rather than on his fourth finger as is traditional, as to why he does so, there is no formal explanation. It could be a style statement or that it is more comfortable than wearing it side by side. The signet ring belonged to his great uncle, Edward VIII when he himself was Prince of Wales between 1910 and 1936. Making it another family heirloom to the British Royal Family.

Prince Charles (now King Charles III) proposed to Lady Diana Spencer in February 1981, with a BBC interview and press conference at Buckingham Palace. Princess Diana’s engagement ring is one of the most iconic jewellery pieces in Britain, and arguably the most famous engagement ring in the world. The striking blue sapphire engagement ring is a 12 carat Oval cut Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 round diamonds and set in white gold.

Andrew Parker Bowles

In 1973, Camilla married Major Andrew Parker Bowles, for over two decades. There were speculations that Major Bowles proposed to Camilla without an engagement ring as on their wedding day, she only wore a simple gold band.

Camilla was photographed at the Queen's Cup polo match at Windsor, on June 7, 1992 wearing a blue topaz ring on her fourth finger, which she had placed over the gold ring and wore for years till her engagement ring from Charles replaced it.
