A name known by all and a love affair that made it to the media. Kim Kardashian, 32, and Kris Humphries, 28, 72-day marriage was a whirlwind of a time. In 2011, after six months of dating, NBA player Humphries proposed in an intimate, at-home affair to Kim, spelling out "Will You Marry Me?" in rose petals in the bedroom of her Beverly Hills home.
The ring? A stunning total of 20.5 carats, that consisted of 16-carat, square-cut diamond in the centre, and it was framed by two 1.8 carat diamonds on either side, designed by the budding fashion designer and Kardashian family jeweller Lorraine Schwartz.
Their lavish marriage was aired on Keeping up with the Kardashians (KUWTK), but sadly after 72 days Kim filed for divorce, on Oct. 31, and their split was finalised in June 2013.
After the divorce, Humphries was able to get back some of the reported $2 million he spent on a 20.5-carat engagement ring for Kim Kardashian by selling it on auction. Listed as "An impressive Diamond Ring, by Lorraine Schwartz," it was included in Christie's "Magnificent Jewels" collection that went on the block in New York City.
The ring's lot text noted that it was "property of a gentleman" and that a portion of proceeds would go to charity. The engagement ring sold for $749,000 at the Christie’s auction. While that was less than half the ring’s reported worth of $2 million, the sale price exceeded the presale estimate of between $300,000 and $500,000.
