Eternal Love and Royal Inspirations: Tru-Diamonds™ for a Timeless Valentine's

by Charlotte Mostert on January 28, 2024

“Love is something eternal - the aspects may change, but not the essence.”

- Vincent Van Gogh

Something about this time of year, when winter is coming to an end and the renewal of life is right around the corner, evokes excitement in the prospect of love.

In celebration of this love for life a large group of us partake in an old tradition of declaring one's love for another on the 14th of February. The history of why this day is celebrated is shared beautifully by The History Channel: “One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome.

When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men.
Valentine, realising the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.”

To continue the tradition of exchanging tokens of affection we have prepared options from Tru-Diamonds™ that would speak volumes alongside anything from a handwritten letter all the way to a romantic helicopter ride.

The famous Sapphire Royal Engagement Ring currently owned by Catherine, Princess of Wales, was inspired by a diamond and sapphire brooch that Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha had created with Garrard for his future wife Queen Victoria in 1840.

It is said that Queen Victoria loved the jewel so much that she wore it up until her husband’s death in 1861. It has since remained to be a royal heirloom, and was often worn by Queen Elizabeth II on several occasions.

According to Garrard’s current Creative Director, Sara Prentice, the brooch was a strong influence on Prince Charles when he went back to the British jeweller in 1981 to purchase a ring for Lady Diana, and ended up setting a sapphire cluster ring that resembled the brooch to give to her on their engagement.

This ring was then later given to Kate Middleton by Prince William on their engagement in 2010, as a way of making sure his mother was with him on his wedding day.
